Beethoven & Dvorak for Winds — 02/05/27

The Florida Orchestra is inviting audiences to enjoy an intimate evening of music with its SoundWaves Chamber Orchestra series presentation, Beethoven & Dvorak for Winds, set for Feb. 5, 2027. Conducted by William Short, the program spotlights the orchestra’s woodwind section in a concert designed to bring listeners closer to both the music and the musicians. The performance features Ruth Gipps’ Seascape, Beethoven’s Octet for Winds, and Dvořák’s Serenade for Winds, creating a blend of bright, joyful writing and music inspired by the sea.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, at Church of the Ascension in Clearwater, with additional performances on Feb. 6 at Zinober Hall at USF Tampa and a matinee on Feb. 7 at the Museum of Fine Arts Marly Room in St. Petersburg. Part of the Florida Orchestra’s 2026-27 season, the SoundWaves series offers a more personal setting for classical fans looking for a different concert experience. The orchestra describes the program as “music that will make you smile,” highlighting its mix of warmth, elegance and chamber-music intimacy.
