Public Mural Commission at Historic Manhattan Casino — 09/01/26

St. Petersburg is inviting local artists to help shape a new chapter in the city’s public art story with a mural commission at the Historic Manhattan Casino in the Deuces Live District. Announced in the City of the Arts newsletter, the project is being led by the City of St. Petersburg in partnership with the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance and No Good Deeds Art. The selected mural will honor the cultural significance of the landmark, Black history in St. Petersburg, and the legacy of the former “Black History Matters” mural.

Artists and artist teams are encouraged to apply for the opportunity, which includes a $15,000 commission and $3,200 for materials. Finalists will be asked to develop design proposals before one artist is chosen for installation, currently planned for September 2026. Applications are due July 5 at 11:59 p.m.

The call for proposals arrives amid broader recognition of the city’s arts districts and ongoing investment in public art. Recent restoration projects and neighborhood markers have underscored how murals, sculptures, and historic installations help preserve local identity while drawing residents and visitors into the city’s cultural corridors. At the Manhattan Casino, the next mural is expected to continue that tradition by celebrating history, community, and creative expression in one of St. Petersburg’s most important heritage sites.
