Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture at Mahaffey Theater Matinee — 10/04/26

The Florida Orchestra will bring one of classical music’s most recognizable works to the Mahaffey Theater for a matinee performance on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. as part of its opening weekend program, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. The concert promises a dramatic mix of familiar favorites and vocal fireworks, featuring tenor Sean Panikkar and the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay.

Under the direction of Michael Francis, the program moves from the quiet intensity of Christopher Theofanidis’ The Gift to the thunderous finale of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. The afternoon also includes Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Beethoven’s Wellington’s Victory, setting the stage for a powerful and celebratory start to the orchestra’s season.

The Mast Chorale of Tampa Bay plays a key role in the performance, joining the orchestra for The Gift and returning for the climactic 1812 Overture. With cannons, voices, and a full orchestra, the concert is designed to be both a showcase of orchestral color and a crowd-pleasing opening weekend event.

Tickets for the matinee are available through The Florida Orchestra’s website, by phone, or at the Ticket Center in St. Petersburg.
