The Florida Orchestra brings Christopher Theofanidis’ The Gift to the Mahaffey Theater on Sunday, Oct. 4, as part of its opening Masterworks weekend. The work, described as a heartwarming tale about generosity, features acclaimed tenor Sean Panikkar and The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, the orchestra’s principal chorus. The performance follows the season opener on Friday, Oct. 2, which also includes Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Beethoven’s rarely heard Wellington’s Victory, a TFO premiere. Together, the concerts launch the Hough Family Foundation Masterworks season with a program built around dramatic showpieces and a strong sense of celebration.
Conducted by Music Director Michael Francis, the weekend concerts also build anticipation for a busy fall calendar. The orchestra says the season will unfold across Tampa Bay with performances at the Mahaffey Theater, the Straz Center in Tampa and Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater. This year’s lineup includes classical favorites, pops concerts and special events, while three new full-time musicians join the ensemble for the 2026-27 season.
The Florida Orchestra, now in its 59th season, says its mission is to inspire, educate and unite through music. Tickets and information are available through the orchestra’s website and Ticket Center.
