On November 17, 2025, the Historic Duncan Auditorium will host a free community screening of “TRIUMPH: Tampa’s Untold Chapter in the Civil Rights Movement,” a compelling documentary that highlights the impactful actions of a courageous group of Black high school students. These young activists organized nonviolent sit-ins at a downtown Woolworth lunch counter, igniting a wave of change throughout Tampa and highlighting critical issues of racial inequality. The event will begin at 7:00 PM and is presented by WEDU PBS in collaboration with Stageworks Theatre. Following the screening, attendees are invited to participate in a panel discussion featuring the film’s director and local community leaders who were actively involved in the sit-in movement. Their insights and reflections will provide historical context and personal anecdotes, enriching the audience’s understanding of the Civil Rights Movement’s local impact. This event not only celebrates Tampa’s historical significance but also aims to inspire ongoing conversations about social justice and equality. Admission is free, but an RSVP is required to secure your spot at this enlightening evening dedicated to remembrance and progress.
